On the last Sunday of each month, a bunch of dachshund owners meet down in Centennial Park to let their mutts run wild. Tracy, Dasha and I headed down for the first time this weekend just gone. The weather was meant to be dodgy but that didn't stop something like 30-40 dachshunds rocking up.
Dasha had a ball running round and being super social. He was a bit of a stand out as almost all daccas in Australia are black or red. Piebald dacca's are really uncommon. You little star Dasha.

Soundwave 2013
Yesterday I got another big tick on the music bucket list after attending Soundwave at Olympic Park. The headline act was Metallica, a band I've liked for many years but never managed to see live. It seems that every time they've come to Australia I've been out of the country and then when I was in the US the only gig they played in NY in 2.5 years was a metalfest style thing at Yankee Stadium.
I headed out there in the afternoon and caught Cyprus Hill's set. One day I'll grow up and stop liking them as well but until that day......They put on a pretty good gig but I think they're better to see indoors than at a music festival.
From there I caught the tail end of A Perfect Circle followed by Linken Park. Metallica came on at about 8pm to around 50,000 screaming fans. The weather had held out and they opened with Turn The Lights Out. They smashed it up for two hours. Interestingly every song they played was off their first four albums. They only played one song from after the Black album. Sad but true (pardon the pun) that I think they peaked at Black and have not had the presence of the first four albums since then.
There were some serious pyrotechnics at the show. The opening of One was full of fireworks. By far my favorite song of the night (and probably of all their songs) was Blackened. They had some serious flames burning during the song. A bit like down at Crown in Melbourne. Final favorite highlight was the opening to Creeping Death. The guitar at the start never ceases to pump me up.
The demographics was another interesting sociological case study. Clearly denim shorts exposing lower bum checks are in with the snapper generation. Metallica coming onto 30 years old are probably some kind of analogue cool for generation whatever the alphabet letter is now. Lets not forgot the slightly older and crustier generation like myself who have Metallica albums on vinyl and not just in our iTunes Cloud. And there was pretty much everything in between.
A top festival, even though my ears are still ringing.
