Recent Foodie Love

Momofuku Ssam
This place somehow or another made Peligrino's top 50 restaurants in the world. It even trumped the flagship of the chain, Ko, in these stakes. The place is a block away from where we're living now and having been to Ko and Noodle Bar we thought we'd complete the trifecta with this one. It ended up being a pretty solid meal which we both enjoyed. It was a pork fest with us primarily ordering bovine inspired dishes but can you ever get enough oinker?

Loved the vibe from the open air kitchen in Ssam

Nomad
This place is pretty new on the scene and is getting some decent write ups. It's the latest place from Eleven Madison Park which is the high end  'in' place in NYC at the moment. Nomad did not disappoint. They've managed to fuse fine dining with a more casual vibe driven by slightly more energetic music. The food was sublime. I had a marrow fest with quite possibly the best bit of gourmet style beef I've ever had. They've split the space up into a bunch of smaller rooms. There is a dining room, private dining room, Library for more intimate cocktails and a bar. If you rate a place's popularity based on the number of chicks in mini skirts then this place would be right up there.

Some of the most tender beef ever at Nomad

Hmmmm marrow

Eataly
Ok I only stopped in here for a coffee but I think they have the nicest looking machine in NYC and the espresso is top notch. Just need to somehow dodge the crowds that come into this place.

Budakan
One of the more established modern Asian places down in the Meat Packing District. We normally get distracted and head to Spice Market for our modern Asian fix but we decided to bust it out to this place. After the mandatory wait in the bar area which was packed with the pretty people we made it to our table. The food his was AMAZING. We're used to tasting menu's for this vibe of food but this time we dusted off our grey matter and had to think for ourselves. Bit of a shame as the food was so good but the interior was a little tired and the service was patchy. Maybe our table was in the Bermuda Triangle of the wait staff?

The Rest
And some other random shots from out and about recently.

  1. The roof top bar is not quite the same without the red coats.
