President in the House

Tonight I was on my way to meet Tracy in Washington Square Park when I noticed an unusual number of police around West 4th St. Dasha and I went to investigate and it ends up the President was in town for a fundraising event being held at the Waverly Inn. He was about to arrive any minute so I set up shop on West 12th for a bit of a look.

I've seen motorcades for VIPs before but never anything to this extent. The entourage must have consisted of at least 100 vehicles including cars, bikes, helicopters, dump trucks, ambulances and vans. The place was decked out as if it was going to be the Thanksgiving Day parade.

Anyway after about 10 minutes the President came past and was happily waving to people. A bit like the Tour de France he came and went in a blink but it was still quite exciting anyway.

The irony of the whole situation was I was stopping by the Lomo shop to drop some films off. I was planning to bring a camera to spin the last of another roll off but decided at the last minute to leave it home. I knew I should have listened to the rules. Oh well the BB had to do.

The President finally arrives

Dump trucks were used to block access to the streets leading to Waverly Inn.

  1. Lucky you. Good photos but you do need to remember to take cameras. You never know who you may run into while walking Dasha (Jennifer?)
