Central Park Cops a Hammering

It sounds like it made the news back in Oz but the storm we had on the weekend has caused a bit of a mess in the North East US. It's the fourth time since records were started that it's snowed in Oct in NYC. I went for a wander through Central Park on Sunday and it was thoroughly trashed. The problem was most of the trees have not lost their leaves and so the accumulation of 7cm's of snow on them caused chaos. There were fallen branches and whole trees everywhere. I looked worse then when the hurricane came through in August.

The word on the ground is that the famous fall colors are probably not going to happen to anywhere near the extent they normally do due to the weird weather we've been having this season. Shame.

One of the few trees to change color.

First Snow in NYC

The inevitable happened today. Thursday crank up of the central heating must have been a warning of things to come. We had our first snow today. Actually it was more like slush but by late afternoon it was starting to pile up on the streets. It feels like only a week or two ago I was wearing sunnies and flip flops. Oh dear I think we're in for a long winter. Wish us luck.

Tungsten Love

About a month or two ago Lomography released a new X-pro tungsten film and I've just got my first shots back from this. I ran it through my L-CA and there were some very interesting results. Probably what stood out most was I thought the film was dodgy as I was having trouble winding it on in my camera. Sadly the new roll I've just put in is not playing nicely so I think my trusty ole my be on its last legs.

Like all X-pro's there seems to be a fine art to getting the sun right and I've yet to figure this out. I do really like the vignetting you get when the sun is getting low and also the color of the reflections off the windows in the apartment buildings. Anyway here's a sample.

Provincetown, MA. This one probably had the most extreme color variation. Almost feels like it's a cousin of the redscale.

My camera was playing up by this stage and the film was not winding on properly. I do love the double exposed shot of Dasha in the left corner.

Can You Spot Dasha?

He's pretty camouflaged in this photo. I bet you cannot find him.....

Oh Dear. Winter is on its way

You know winter is coming when you're sitting at home and you hear the heating pipes creaking as they heat up for the first time. Oh and there is also possible snow forecast on Saturday. Joy!

The Rat's New Shirt

After a hectic month of extreme weather in August I decided to get Dasha a little t-shirt made up to commemorate his first earthquake and hurricane. It's quite a hit on the streets of NYC.

Jane St Block Party

Many of the neighbourhoods around Manhattan host these things called block parties on a semi regular basis during summer. It's a community thing where they close off the street, crank up a grill and generally encourage everyone to have a good time. Last weekend there was one around the corner on Jane Street. We're in the midst of an exceptionally good fall and it really has pumped the spirit up around the place. I suppose the copious amounts of ale on tap also helped but all in all things were pumping in the afternoon. Here are a couple of snaps and a video of the activities.

This is what Jane St normally looks like.

And with the party fully cranking

Prime seats. I have no idea how they got up there.

The band was pumping out some tunes.

Fall Road Trip Part 5 - Prince Dasha

As we come into the tail end of blogs I thought I would post a few pictures of Dasha from the road trip. He was exceptionally good on the trip and I really think he enjoyed the off leash time in both the forest and on the beach. We never had any problems with him however you did need to keep a bag of treats with you the entice him to come when called.

It took him a day or two to get settled. There was a bit of an accident at the first place we stayed at. Actually a bit is an understatement but Tracy did a good job cleaning up. He was very happy to travel in his crate in the car although he got up the front a few times. He also happily slept all night in his crate and continues to at home which is great.

All the places we stayed at were pet friendly and were very accommodating for the mutt. We both ended up being really glad to bring him along.

Dasha really loved ferreting around in the leaves.

In his crate in the car.

Heading up the mountain. There was a 30 mph wind and we were swaying like no tomorrow. A little concerning.

Playing on the beach. The other dog's owner was proper weird.
