There was this really cool event on this weekend down at Tompkins Square Park called Art Around the Park. The organizers had erected this massive winding canvas around the perimter of the park and broken it up into sections for anyone to come along and get creative.
You wouldn't believe that I'd just shipped all my art stuff back to Oz but I was pretty keen to get onboard. Luckily I'd brought the Galaga stencil I did last year over the the East Village and I thought in lieu of having a lot of prep time that I could paste that up.
Tracy, Sarah and Dasha went and scouted a spot and I went to the hardware store to grab some paint and a paint brush. They found a pretty cool spot but what we did not realise until after I started was the dudes either side of me were pro painters working on these masterpieces. My 'painting' on the day involved getting some black paint up to frame the stencil. I dropped a smiley face in the centre while waiting for the paint to dry. At this point one of the pro's came by and was quite interested 'where I was taking this.'
With a bit of help from Tracy and Matt I got the poster up and blended onto the background. I was quite excited to be able to participate in this cool event and it was even more exciting watching people take photos of it and hearing all the comments about how 'cool' it was. It was one awesome afternoon.
