NYC BBQ Block Party

Tracy and I wandered up to enjoy some of the south's finest BBQ cuisine with a few people at the 2012 NYC BBQ Block Party. As with any Manhattan event a 'few' people ended up being about 100,000 others. The event enveloped Madison Square Park and the slightly overcast 25 degree day made it about as perfect a day as any to soak up some calo-busting bovine love.

They had this pretty cool system where each vendor was color coded flag on their stand and a corresponding flag where the end of the queue was. It made it easy to find the end of the line but the near 45 minute wait was still pretty tough on an empty stomach.

Our starter was a couple of delicious pulled pork rolls from Big Bob Gibson. Let me just say ole mate Gibbo makes a mean pulled pork roll. These boys dont take any prisoners. They have semi trailer sized BBQ pits churning our hundreds of kilos of the stuff to cater for the crowds.

Second course was some St Louis style ribs from Baker's Ribs. The line was a bit shorter for these guys but the ribs were still sensational. We were talking to one of the cooks and he said they had something like 6000 pounds of ribs they were expecting to churn through during today and tomorrow.

Another classic Saturday arvo in NYC.

Baker's Ribs. This was some seriously hot work. I'm feeling for these guys. 6000 pounds of these bad boys to cook today.

These were so good I could have eaten almost all of them.

  1. Mate, jealous-as. Ribs and pulled pork at the top of my *nom* list. Were they better than the ribs we had at De Hut in the 'Dam? I'd say probably yes, but it'd be a close call. 'Nuff respect.
