Cienfuegos, Cuba

The next stop on our Cuba trip was a town called Cienfuegos. Cienfuegos was about a 6 hour car ride from Vinales and a rather eventful one at that. Halfway along the skies opened in a massive downpour however that did not stop our driver from attempting a land speed record for the trip. Fortunately we made it in one piece.

Our first stop was the bank to change some money. What a drama. The queue was out the door and it took over an hour. A far cry from the five minutes it took in Havana. We had pre arranged another Casa a bit out of town at Punta Gorda. It was called Casa Laguna and Lonely Planet described the lovely Italianate pool. Sadly it was more a breeding ground for algae when we got here. The view from the room however was supreme.

Cienfuegos itself was heavily influenced by the French and the architecture is noticeably different to Havana. The other big difference was the visible display of affluence in the place. Our favorites were the guys walking around with the Gucci manbags. It must have been a real status thing and combined with a polo top and knee length shorts seemed to be 'the look'.

We spent another day aimlessly wandering around. We were hassled a lot less here and there were some excellent photo opportunities. We managed to find a pizza place with the fifty cent specials which we've come to love. Tomorrow it's back on the road again and off to Trinidad.
