Vinales Countryside

We spent our final day in Vinales cruising around the countryside in the 59 Chevy with Lewis. There were a few different tour options but horse riding and hiking were not high on our priority list so we opted with hiring a taxi for a few hours.

I was quite keen to get some shots of the countryside and the farmers working. It's very turn of the century with guys riding bareback on horses, fields being plowed by oxes, chickens roaming freely and horse drawn carts. The farmers are a happy bunch and go about their business quite happily. It was about a month to early for the tobacco crops but there we plenty of other interesting things such as flowers, bananas, beans and other random fruit and vegetables.

We stopped by one field to watch the farmers ploughing and our guide knew one of the farmers. He asked if I wanted a go. Well let me tell you ploughing a field with oxes is not one of my strengths. The nice parallel lines from the farmer turned more into a zig zag pattern. Two laps and I was soaked with sweat and covered in mud but I had fun doing it.

The beauty of the mountains and valleys in this region are really amazing. I can understand why they say this is the nicest landscapes in Cuba. It would have been great to ride through this region but then that would have involved physical activity.
