Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

We had a awesome time in Cuba but it was way more hectic than we a used to and we were in dire need of some serious R and R. We also needed a place we could fly into the US from so we decided to check out Grand Cayman.

It was a short flight south of Cuba and a welcome relief from the previous two weeks. We'd booked some pretty swanky accommodation at the Caribbean Club and had a great apartment overlooking Seven Mile Beach.

The first thing I did when I got there was head to the supermarket across the road to get ingredients for a spag bog. We really take for granted the access we have to fresh food and walking through the supermarket made me think how lucky we are compared to some other countries. The last thing we wanted to do was eat out so a home cooked meal was a welcome relief on our trip.

Per our usual island hopping we did not really venture beyond 10 meters either side of the hotel. Well that's not entirely true. I caught up with an old school bud and his wife who live down there. We went out for dinner one night and I cooked a roast on another night. We also went up to Cemetery Beach to do some snorkeling. Bet you cannot guess what was on the beach.

They say Grand Cayman is the Switzerland of the Caribbean. Safe, modern, neutral etc. It really is a decked out place and Seven Mile Beach is pretty amazing. The water is probably the best we've been in although the sand was not quite as good as Aruba. Phew we are becoming fussy these days.

We were a little sad on Sunday night. Part of it was the fact we had to get up at 5am on Monday to get a flight to Miami but the other was that it was the last dip we'd be having in the Caribbean for a LONG time. We had some amazing adventures down there and I am sure there will be several blogs to reminisce over the coming months. It really is an amazing part of the world and five stars for all you beach bums.

The cloud formations were crazy

You can imagine we hated walking to this each morning

The water was outrageously clear and some of the best we have swum in.

Catching up with Ben and Melissa who sadly have to live at Cayman.

Cemetary Beach

A tad sad as this was after our last Caribben swim for a long time.

Warning mixing bubble bath and a spa can be dangerous
